The Paperwork Every Mortgage Lender Requires must be provided in a timely and complete manner in order to approve your loan application. These items include in preparation for applying for a mortgage loan. The list below is a general list to get you started in your communications with a mortgage lender. Your lender of choice may provide you with additional requirements.
Documentation Needed to Buy a Home
- Current Pay Stubs. Usually copies (not originals) of your last two pay stubs will be sufficient.
- W2s. This tax document is issued by your employer for each calendar year and is attached to your yearly tax returns. Normally, lenders ask for the last 2 years of W2s.
- Federal Tax Returns. Provide the lender with copies (including all supporting documentation) for the previous 2 years.
- Bank Statements. Provide copies of the last 3 months of bank statements from each banking account.
- Asset Statements. If you own stocks, bonds, mutual funds or retirement accounts, make a copy of each statement.
- Copy of Current
Driver's License. Your license should
have a photograph of you.
*Do not pay any fees to a lender until you have elected to use that lender.
